In June 2019, the then President of the United States, Donald Trump, paid a state visit to the United Kingdom, where he was received by Prince Andrew. A photo from the meeting shows Andrew smiling as he shakes hands with Trump.

That same month, financier Jeffrey Epstein exchanged email messages with Steve Bannon, former White House chief strategist. “Prince Andrew and Trump today…sooooo funny (sic),” Epstein wrote. Then he added, “Remember, Prince Andrew’s accuser came from Mar-a-Lago,” in reference to Trump’s Florida resort.

Bannon responded: “I don’t believe anyone is making you a liaison.” The exact meaning of the message is unclear.

According to reports in the American press, Trump and Andrew socialized in the 1990s and 2000s, along with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, at events that sometimes took place at Mar-a-Lago.

King Charles III stripped Andrew of his royal title in October after years of controversy over the Epstein case and other scandals.

Trump reacts and calls the Epstein case a “hoax”

After the new emails were released, Donald Trump called the Jeffrey Epstein case a “hoax” and accused the Democratic Party of trying to divert attention from the federal government shutdown.

“Democrats are trying to resurrect the Jeffrey Epstein hoax because they will do anything to divert attention from how disastrous they were with the government shutdown and so many other issues,” the former president wrote in Truth Social. “Only a very bad, or stupid, Republican would fall into that trap.”

Trump also urged allies to stay focused on reopening the government: “There should be no diversion of attention to Epstein or anything else. Any Republicans involved should just focus on reopening the country and repairing the enormous damage done by the Democrats!”
