Embraer announced on Tuesday, 26, in Tokyo, the sale of 15 aircraft from the E-120 model for All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s largest airline.

The contract also includes the option to acquire five more units. The announcement was made during the Brazil-Japan Business Forum and was attended by Brazilian and Japanese authorities.

The potential value of the agreement can reach about R $ 10 billion, considering the entire 20 aircraft. The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, present at the event, said that the contract represents a relevant investment for Brazilian aviation.

“It means the equivalent of almost 10 billion reais in investments that the Japanese airline is doing at Embraer,” he said.

According to Embraer President Francisco Gomes Neto, the negotiation strengthens the company’s position in the international market.

“Ana, besides being the largest airline in Japan, has a very strong image in the aviation sector. This decision by Embraer planes reinforces and endorses the product, and will be important for us to enter other airlines from other countries,” he said.

The ceremony was also attended by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who mentioned the possibility of expanding trade relations in the sector.

“I can tell Prime Minister Ishiba that Embraer planes are of great quality. Those who buy 20 can buy a little more and maybe all Japanese companies can fly by Embraer plane,” he said.

In addition to selling aircraft, the agreement includes sustainability initiatives. According to representatives of the Brazilian government, a negotiation with Japanese authorities for the adoption of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) with production based in Brazil is underway.

Minister Silvio Costa Filho stated that Brazil could consolidate itself as a fuel supplier in the future.

“SAF is the fuel of the future, the green fuel. Japanese airlines have full interest in being able to fly through SAF and Brazil tends to be a major exporter in this fuel,” he said. He added that there is the intention that 10% of the fuel used in Japan originates from Brazilian ethanol.

Cooperation between the two countries also includes the formation of qualified labor in the aeronautical sector. According to Costa Filho, Embraer’s international expansion requires training investments in Brazil.

“With the sale of Embraer aircraft around the world, not only in Japan, but in other international markets, there is a concern of Embraer and the government so that we can prepare our Brazilian labor,” he said.

The minister mentioned that a qualification program is being developed focusing on the insertion of young people in the sector.

Francisco Gomes Neto pointed out that Embraer has a consolidated operation in Japan, with technical structure for maintenance and support for aircraft. According to him, about 50 aircraft from the company operate in the country for over 15 years, serving approximately 30 cities.

“The aircraft that operate here have a very high availability, 99.8%. That is: it is a very good job that is done together between Embraer and the customers who operate the planes,” he said.

Embraer was founded in 1969 with support from the federal government and currently occupies the third position in the world market of commercial jets, being a global leader in the segment of up to 130 seats.

The company has already delivered more than 8,000 aircraft and employs about 18,000 people. It has industrial units, service centers and offices in different regions of the world.

Negotiation with Ana reinforces Embraer’s presence in Asia and expands its participation in strategic markets. In addition, it inserts Brazil into international discussions on energy transition in the air sector and export of sustainable technologies.
