Former US President Donald Trump launched a unique shoe collection this week, with several pairs themed around Bitcoin (BTC). The Bitcoin shoes are available in limited editions, with the rarest edition selling out in minutes.
Some buyers are now trying to profit by reselling the shoes for a fortune on eBay, hoping to make a tidy profit.
‘Trump crypto president’ shoes
Trump announced the launch of his Bitcoin shoes yesterday, just days after his historic speech at Bitcoin Conference 2024 in Nashville, on his own social media platform Truth Social.
”Get your Bitcoin Sneakers now. These limited edition sneakers are numbered and you can now pay with Bitcoin or your favorite crypto. Enjoy!”
In his message, he directs his nearly 7.5 million followers to his own website called ‘gettrumpsneakers.com’, where, in addition to the Bitcoin shoes, countless other shoes and even perfume are offered for sale.
Trump has released three different Bitcoin-themed shoes, which were made available for pre-order on Wednesday. The orange “Trump crypto president” high-tops are the most expensive variant, priced at $499. In just a few minutes, all 1,000 available shoes sold out.
There will also be 1,000 units in black, as well as 1,000 low-tops in orange. Both are still available for pre-order and cost $299.
A small number of shoes, randomly selected, feature a personal touch from Trump himself in the form of a signature.
BTC Shoes Re-Sold On eBay
In the meantime, there are already numerous of the sold-out Bitcoin shoes offered on eBay. The cheapest pair is offered via a live auction with $700 as a starting price. Outside of this auction, you will have to pay at least $1,500 to get your hands on the orange shoes. However, it is not possible to say whether the offers are actually legitimate, although most sellers have received high ratings on the platform.
