Last Sunday, the former president of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, was awarded the Chinese Friendship Medal, one of the highest Chinese state honors for foreigners. The handover ceremony took place in the Great Hall of the People, located in Beijing.

The distinction is reserved for those who significantly contribute to China’s socialist modernization, as well as fostering international exchanges and cooperation, and supporting the maintenance of world peace.

This honor reflects the close ties between China and the global community, symbolizing lasting friendship.

The award to Rousseff took place in the context of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, scheduled for October 1st.

In preparation for this date, on September 13, President Xi Jinping issued a presidential order that recognized 15 individuals with national medals and honorary titles.

Since March 2023, Rousseff has headed the New Development Bank (NDB), based in Shanghai.

This bank was established in 2015 by the BRICS group, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, with the aim of mobilizing resources for infrastructure and sustainable development projects in emerging economies.
