The office of Maria Corina Machadoleader of an opposition coalition in Venezuelawas the target of an attack last week.
According to reports from Machado’s team in a post on the social network X, paramilitaries were responsible for the vandalism, which included graffiti and the scattering of documents around the site.
Machado’s team declared: “Paramilitary attack! They were wrong again. The heart of our struggle is in millions of homes.”
This incident occurs in a context of growing tension, following the controversial results of the presidential elections of July 28, which confirmed Nicolás Maduro as re-elected president.
María Corina Machado, who supports Edmundo González Urrutia for president, has limited her public appearances due to alleged persecution by the government.
Since January 2014, Machado has been banned from leaving the country, a measure that followed a series of violent protests in Caracas and other cities.
Recently, Jorge Rodríguez, president of the National Assembly, stepped up the accusations against her and González, labeling them “leaders of a fascist conspiracy” and calling for their arrest.
