More than ten thousand people gathered, despite the threats of rain, to walk the streets of Cordoba that link the mythical corner of Colón and Cañada and take us to Patio Olmos. There, days ago, the base assemblies of the faculties taken and not taken, had defined that this would be the arrival point of a mobilization called in the afternoon, so that thousands of workers who are fathers, mothers, grandparents or students of those families to whom Milei lied and responded forcefully because in Córdoba more than half of those who study work or are looking for work.

That same student population from working-class families knew that a march called during work hours like the previous ones limited the participation of those who still claim and claim that the university belongs to the workers, and “if you don’t like it, you’re screwed.” The forcefulness of the mobilization made clear the rejection of the adjustment and definancing of public education.

This is how the leaders of the teaching and non-teaching unions, such as ADIUC, had to understand it, which belatedly, on the eve of the march, echoed the call and called to march by imposing their own bases. The same thing happened with the leaders of the student centers run by the radical and Peronist groups, they stayed away from organizing the call and even boycotted it.

The flags that were observed at the head showed the power of the organization from below. Assembly of Arts, of Psico, of Philosophy and Humanities, of Arqui, of the Fac of Communication, Interclaustro Assembly of Economics, among others were the flags that flew, still wet in the streets of Cordoba. Cordoban humor had already anticipated that if it rained at the time of the march, “it is the forces of heaven that cry.” And so it was, because once they reached their destination, the umbrellas were opened to shelter the crowd from the “libertarian tears” according to a popular meme. The banners, flags, posters in defense of public education, for an increase in the budget and teacher salaries.

This mobilization was a triumph of the Interfaculty Assembly that took place on Wednesday of last week where more than 10 grassroots assemblies converged and voted as a central motion to mobilize without waiting for the times of the authorities, union leaders and leaders of student centers.

The majority of those who marched were students, although important sectors of teachers accompanied in columns with the flags of each house of study. Student groups such as Imagination in Power of the Faculty of Arts, creator of the proposal to organize a massive inter-faculty assembly that would be responsible for calling this march, were aligned with the assembly of which they are part. The same was true for Tesis

The one absent with notice was the Purple Strip, not only an ally of the Rectorate but a defender in the facts of Milei’s adjustment policy every time it boycotted the shots and encouraged passivity and in turn, the march was a day after in Psychology the take will be rectified. A defeat for the right that left the assembly angrily and where the pepper spray used to restrict the deliberation was widely repudiated.

In the face of these conciliatory policies, if not directly traitors of the struggle, the university march was not only a demonstration of force, but also a call for unity and resistance against adjustment policies.

Next Friday there will be a new Interfaculty Assembly that will define the steps to follow based on the mandates that, once again, the base assemblies of each academic unit carry. What is certain is that Milei will not be welcome in Córdoba next week. Surely, the rejection action will be prepared in the coming days, by new public classes, talks, popular pots and the tools that emerge from below to strengthen the massiveness and organization of the struggle.
