At a time when blockchain networks are increasingly shredding, Solana founder Anatoly Yakovenko comes with a special proposal: a ‘meta chain’ that acts as a central data cub for various block chains. His idea? A layer where all block chains can deposit their transaction data, regardless of whether they run on Ethereum, Solana or Celestia.

Lower costs, faster innovation

The proposal is all about a new solution for the so-called Data Availability problem. This layer ensures that transaction data remains available to everyone, so that the networks can continue to run smoothly. Yakovenko suggests choosing the cheapest solution at any time, which could lower transaction costs across the board.

According to Yakovenko, the price of Data Bandwidth is the real bottleneck of the blockchain industry. By lowering those costs, all other parts of the chain automatically become cheaper. This opens the door to cheaper transactions, faster Dapps and ultimately also better user experiences.

His proposal goes even further: he dreams of a system without external sequencers. Instead, rules would automatically determine how transactions between chains are merged. The idea: users no longer have to worry about which network they are on. You simply send your transaction “to the internet”.

Competition or cooperation?

Yakovenko is not the only one who thinks it should be different. During Paris Blockchain Week, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson called for more cooperation in the sector. According to him, the current structure is too hostile: every project tries to push the other out of the market. His plea: Work on a model in which Blockchains are rewarded for cooperation, rather than competition.

Cardano is therefore working on “Minotaur”, a protocol that rewards multiple block chains at the same time for validating the same transaction. A concept that matches Yakovenkos ‘Meta Chain’ vision, in which different networks no longer operate separately but as one ecosystem.
