During Sunday afternoon, anger broke out in the WhatsApp groups of the La Matanza schools when it became known that Cristian Eduardo Pereyra was murdered by a Buenos Aires police officer. He was traveling when on the Presidente Perón highway, towards Ezeiza, near the San Javier neighborhood, he was murdered. Cristian, 39 years old, lived in La Foresta and was a technical teacher at technical schools No. 8 and No. 10 in La Matanza.

“My brother was killed by a police officer who was going to Puente 12: he left him dying and left,” the sister reported on the Crónica TV cameras. Relatives reported that the investigators themselves began to warn of possible police involvement when they found inconsistencies in the responses of the Bonaerenses.

Cristian’s murder once again exposes the decomposition of the Buenos Aires Police. There are many cases of police officers who use the impunity of being armed and participate in organized crime. An independent investigation by the police with human rights organizations, family members and teachers, co-workers is urgently needed to reach the truth that the family is demanding.

Terrible news that exposes precariousness

In the teaching groups, the anger grows because there are many who must have more jobs, because they do not make ends meet since their salary is below the family basket. Two weeks ago there was a “non-start” of classes due to the rejection of the salary offer made by the Kicillof government. A week later, Suteba accepted the parity but the anger continued to grow over the salaries that leave more and more teachers below the poverty line. Cristian’s death also reveals the precariousness in which many teachers in our country live.

The Brown Teaching Group and La Izquierda Diario accompany the family and friends in this difficult time. We demand justice for Cristian and we extend the call made by the family to demand Justice at the police station.
