In a speech at the UN, China questions the US veto power and demands concrete actions on Gaza, while the world awaits answers.
Ambassador Fu Cong’s speech at the UN Special Emergency General Assembly echoed like a cry for justice lost among the powers. He vehemently denounced the repeated use of the veto by the United States, which, by blocking essential actions in the Security Council, perpetuates the suffering in Gaza. For no legitimate reason, the US became an obstacle to peace, while the voice of countries like Indonesia sought, with urgent resolutions, to restore humanity to the conflict.
Amid sanctions and blockades, Fu Cong’s speech was a reminder that true diplomacy requires more than power: it requires compassion and a commitment to justice.
Check out the speech in full:
We are holding a special emergency session of the General Assembly in this hall today because the United States has repeatedly exercised its exclusive veto, leaving the Security Council paralyzed and unable to take the necessary steps to bring about a ceasefire in Gaza.
There is absolutely no legitimate reason for the United States to abuse its veto power on the Palestinian issue.
In order to save the negative impact caused by the US veto, Indonesia and other relevant countries submitted two draft resolutions to the United Nations General Assembly.
One demands an immediate, unconditional and lasting ceasefire in Gaza and the removal of obstacles to humanitarian access. another demands that Israel lift its sanctions against Palestine in the Near East at the United Nations.
The Refugee Relief and Works Agency bill ensures the normal performance of the Agency’s functions and calls on the international community to increase support for the Agency.
The two draft resolutions represent the fair appeal of the international community and China will vote in favor.
The conflict in Gaza lasted 14 months. Gaza was bombed until it was turned into rubble and more than 40,000 Palestinians lost their lives.
The survivors were deprived of the most basic survival supplies and fought in desperation.
In this unprecedented disaster, we have seen indiscriminate bombing and indifference for civilian lives reach a terrible level.
We have seen the collusion and support of individual countries for their allies reach an unprecedented level. and double standards of international law.
People can’t help but ask: Are the rules and systems established by the United Nations 80 years ago completely unimportant and ineffective? Will the world return to the jungle era? Our answer is that the world cannot return to the jungle era and let the law of the jungle become the “new normal.”
We must press for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza. A ceasefire is a prerequisite for saving lives and restoring peace.
Linking the ceasefire issue to other issues, or even establishing preconditions for a ceasefire, is in fact a “green light” for the continuation of the war and the tolerance of continued killing.
We must defend the authority of international law. Exceptions are not permitted in the fulfillment of obligations arising from international law.
As the occupying power, Israel must assume its obligations under international humanitarian law, effectively remove all obstacles to humanitarian access, ensure the orderly distribution of supplies throughout Gaza, and guarantee the security of humanitarian institutions and personnel.
In particular, we must support and ensure the normal work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. UNRWA supports millions of Palestinian refugees in the region and is an irreplaceable lifeline for the people of Gaza.
We urge Israel to stop suppressing and restricting humanitarian agencies like UNRWA. We call on traditional donor countries to continue providing support to the Agency and not to participate in the collective punishment of the Palestinian people.
We must reinvigorate the two-state solution with the utmost urgency. The only way to achieve peace between Palestine and Israel is to realize that the two countries, Palestine and Israel, live side by side and share security and development.
The international community should increase support and provide guarantees for the implementation of the “two-state solution”.
Today, we must not only help Palestine improve its governance capabilities and support it in reaching agreement on future arrangements for Gaza through internal consultations, but also be cautious and resist unilateral actions that erode the foundations of “ two-state solution,” including further expansion of settlements in the West Bank and annexation of the West Bank.
China supports the State of Palestine to become a full member of the United Nations, supports holding a larger, more authoritative and more effective international peace conference, and formulates a timetable and roadmap for implementing the “two-state solution ”.
China will continue to make unremitting efforts to end the war as quickly as possible, restore regional peace and achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.
Thank you, President.
