China and Russia reaffirm strategic ties in high level meeting, highlighting political coordination and global cooperation for international stability
The High Chinese diplomat Wang Yi maintained a strategic dialogue with Sergei Shoigu, secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council, in Beijing on Friday (28). Wang noted that, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Russian relations will remain solid and unshakable.
Recently, leaders on both sides had a telephone conversation after the video conferencing at the beginning of the year and led communication on the deepening of strategic coordination and promoting the stability of the international situation. This totally reflected the high level and particularity of China-Russian relations and highlighted the responsible role played by the heads of state of the two main powers, said Wang.
He has asked both sides to be attended to the implementation of the consensus achieved by the two heads of state, maintain close coordination and continue to deepen mutual confidence and strategic security cooperation.
History and reality repeatedly proved that China-Russian relations have a strong internal driving force, solid public support and unique strategic value, and are not directed and should not be influenced by third parties, said Wang.
He noted that China-Russian relations in the New Age are increasingly demonstrating the resilience and calm of the new model of relations between large countries.
Wang said this year marks the 80th anniversary of victory in the anti-fascist World War, as well as the 80th anniversary of the UN foundation, which is of historical importance in both China-Russia ties and broader international relations.
As two major World War II winners and permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and Russia have the responsibility to join forces to defend the results of World War II and maintain global peace and development.
Shoigu said the two heads of state outlined the direction for the development of bilateral relations and strategic coordination. The two countries enjoy a high degree of political and strategic mutual confidence, and are not affected by external factors.
Establishing the comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination between Russia and China is a firm choice that was made on both sides, meeting the fundamental interests of both countries and the two peoples, he said.
Russia and China maintain highly consistent positions on international matters and coordinate closely within mechanisms such as the UN, G20 and APEC, Shoigu said, adding that Russia will fully support the Chinese presidency of the Shangoi Cooperation Organization and its confectionery, while expressing gratitude for China’s support for BRICS presidency last year.
Both sides exchanged in -depth views of the crisis in Ukraine. SHOIGU has described the latest situation of Russia-It contact, as well as considerations about Russia’s position, saying that Russia is committed to eliminating the roots of the crisis in Ukraine and seeking a permanent, fair and sustainable peace plan.
Wang said China will continue to play a constructive role in promoting peace negotiations and pressure for a political solution to the Ukraine crisis.
Both sides have agreed to hold a new round of strategic China-Russian security consultations at an appropriate time. They also exchanged opinions about the Asia-Pacific region, Middle East and Afghanistan, and other international or regional issues of common interest.
