China’s People’s Liberation Army has drawn up a detailed catalog of strategic targets on US aircraft carrier groups, highlighting radars, sensors and communications systems as priorities in potential conflicts, in a move that reinforces the silent war for technological supremacy at sea.
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) electronic warfare unit has produced a target list for a coordinated attack against US aircraft carrier groups.
In a potential conflict, these precisely identified American military radars, sensors and communications systems will likely be concentrated targets for China’s electronic warfare weapons, according to a researcher involved in the project.
This unprecedented revelation was published in the most recent issue of the magazine Defence Industry Conversion in Chinasupervised by the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. The publication aims to encourage civilian institutions and companies to participate in research into military technologies and weapons production.
“This information can serve as a reference for the development of electronic countermeasures technologies and related equipment on China’s future naval battlefields,” Mo Jiaqian, an electronic countermeasures expert with PLA Unit 92728, wrote in the report.
Her report analyzed the mechanisms and benefits of the U.S. Navy’s Cooperative Engagement Capabilities (CEC) system, a vital component of the carrier fleet’s air defense and early warning network.
This system allows the entire fleet to share air defense resources, allowing ships to launch anti-aircraft missiles for interception even if their own sensors fail to detect an approaching target.
