Experts in China are discussing the possibility that the country’s new sixth-generation stealth fighter could possess advanced capabilities at hypersonic speeds. One commentator stated that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) “completely exceeded advanced global standards”.

Official Chinese media reports suggest that the plane spotted over Chengdu, in Sichuan province, last Thursday is the aforementioned sixth-generation aircraft.

The fighter was observed during a daytime flight, escorted by a J-20, a fifth-generation fighter already in operation, as indicated by images allegedly captured near the Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group.

The new jet, notable for its triangular design and lack of tail, was seen flying with its landing gear down, a typical procedure for early test flights.

Although Chinese authorities have not yet officially confirmed or named the aircraft, the Defense Times of Chengdu published on the social network Weibo an image of a ginkgo leaf with the caption “it really looks like a leaf”, which was interpreted as an allusion to the new fighter. , suggesting a semi-official recognition of the project.
