The Office of the President announced this Friday night that Chief of Staff Guillermo Francos submitted his resignation after weeks of rumors about cabinet changes, and the President decided to accept it. According to what was reported on social networks, the position would be assumed by Manuel Adorni, current presidential spokesperson, who had been elected as a Buenos Aires legislator.

Milei had anticipated changes in his cabinet during the electoral campaign, with the aim of “relaunching” a government that had been weakened by the economic and political crisis, but also as a condition that the United States would have set to show a management with dialogue and broader allies, that is, that it shows sufficient governability or at least signs of it to try to carry out legislative reforms and economic adjustment. After the result of the legislative elections last Sunday, the ruling party was quick to show those gestures: meeting with governors to agree on anti-worker reforms, and allies in Congress, and this Friday night Milei met with former president Mauricio Macri, while the news of Francos’ resignation became known.

The former Chief of Staff, Francos, had made strong statements in recent months about the need to look for allies among governors, including those of Peronist origin. This role is the one that stands out the most in his resignation publication on his social networks:

Minutes after Francos’ resignation was known, the resignation of Lisandro Catalán in the Ministry of the Interior was confirmed, with no announcements so far about how the portfolio would be reorganized or its replacement.

Adorni: Milei’s bishop to attack workers and diversity

Manuel Adorni was confirmed as the new Chief of Staff, replacing Francos, who since Milei’s inauguration was the presidential spokesperson, staunchly defending every attack by the libertarian government on workers, women, diversity, and journalists.

Following the complaint from the Garrahan workers, Adorni gave conferences where he treated them as “gnocchi.” At the same time, he even stated that disability certificates had been granted using animal x-rays, something that was denied by the Government itself, all in order to stigmatize the fight of the Disability group against the arbitrary cancellation of thousands of certificates.

A few hours before the pride march, it is worth remembering that Manuel Adorni in his conferences even stated that “gender policies have been of no use.” These are programs that, despite the low funding they had, provided basic responses for women and LGBTIQ+ people who suffer violence, such as emptying the 144 hotline or the Acompañar Plan.

The change of cabinet with the information so far leaves a conclusion about how the internal situation within La Libertad Avanza is beginning to be resolved: the electoral result means for the government the strengthening of its “Iron Triangle”, including Karina Milei and Manuel Adorni. A change that does not express a breadth towards other political sectors, but rather a more concentrated mileism.

However, as Myriam Bregman, elected national deputy for the Left Front, has been pointing out, “it would be a big mistake for the government to read the electoral result as a blank check”, that is, the vote that La Libertad Avanza received should not be interpreted as an endorsement for its entire political program, such as adjustments to health, education, more labor reforms or the constant attack on retirees.
