Israeli delegation suggests extending the truce in Gaza for 42 days, while mediators press for a definitive agreement to end the war
An Israeli delegation proposed in Cairo to extend the first stage of the Gaza ceasefire agreement for another 42 days, an Egyptian security source told Xinhua on Friday (28).
Speaking of anonymity, the source noted that the Israeli delegation also proposed that Hamas free three Israeli hostages on Saturday in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, without specifying the number, along with the facilitation of the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Negotiations still need to address the second stage of the agreement, which seeks to end the war in Gaza and ensure the complete withdrawal of Israel from the Gaza Strip, the source added.
Egypt, an important mediator, continues to press the end of the war and the beginning of Gaza reconstruction efforts, the source added.
On Thursday, two delegations from Israel and Qatar arrived in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, to continue the negotiations of ceasefire in the Gaza Strip in the presence of US mediators, according to the statement of the Egyptian State Information Service.
