This Wednesday the National Defense Commission of the House of Representatives in which the minister of this portfolio, Luis Petridefended the bill promoted by the Government to modify the Internal Security Law to allow the intervention of the Armed Forces in cases of “terrorism”.

Christian Castillonational deputy for the PTS in it United Left Front He explained the reasons for his rejection.

We share some of their core concepts:

  • What they are seeking is for the Armed Forces to intervene in the repression of protests. With this initiative they want to justify the involvement of the Armed Forces in internal politics and the repression of social protests.
  • Patricia Bullrich and the presidential office described the demonstrations against the Bases law as terrorist actions. For this reason, this initiative is dangerous. Because it could be one of the reasons for the intervention of the Armed Forces and thus justify the repression and the arrests.
  • It is very important how terrorism is classified. Because the biggest terrorist acts we are seeing today are being carried out by the State of Israel in Palestinian territory, killing civilians. But obviously those who are aligned with Israel are not going to say anything. So, I ask you, Minister: what are these threats to our country that a priori do not appear?
  • Any greater power of intervention within the Armed Forces is to strengthen the repressive apparatus against the people and the protests.

It should be remembered that the project was presented by the Government on August 2 of this year. The text of the initiative states that “this bill incorporates the possibility of action by the ARMED FORCES (FFAA) in the face of acts of terrorism, which are

adds to the TWO (2) existing options provided for by the Internal Security Law No. 24,059 and its amendments.”
