Charles Hoskinson, the man behind Cardano (ADA), suddenly looks at the XRP community with different eyes. Where there was previously tension, he now speaks of a friendly group of people. And he promises something surprising: in 2026 there will be a “fun project” especially for XRP holders.

Once an argument, now appreciation

It’s quite special. A few years ago, Hoskinson and the XRP community were still at odds with each other. The argument revolved around ETHGate, the story that Ethereum allegedly influenced the SEC to tackle Ripple. Hoskinson thought that was nonsense, which was not well received by XRP fans.

Yet the atmosphere changed at the end of 2024. Hoskinson apologized and contact has since improved. During a recent livestream, he even called the XRP community “remarkably friendly.” According to him, this open attitude was also the reason why XRP holders were allowed to participate in the airdrop of NIGHT tokens.

XRP holders will receive free NIGHT tokens

That airdrop is part of the Midnight project, a new privacy-oriented blockchain that runs on Cardano technology. XRP was one of eight blockchains selected. A total of 1.2 billion NIGHT has been reserved for people who owned at least $100 in XRP on June 11, 2025.

Some users have already claimed their tokens. The rest can be distributed and traded from December 8.

Hoskinson promises more

Hoskinson went one step further. He confirmed that Cardano is working on a separate DeFi layer for XRP. This should allow holders of XRP to earn a return on their coins, comparable to what Flare Network, among others, already offers.

He did not yet provide details, but he emphasized that the project will “provide a lot of fun”. More information will follow in the course of 2026.
