Myriam Bregman and Nicolás del Caño, national deputies of the PTS-FITU, filed a criminal complaint against the Avanza Libertad deputy José Luis Espert for threats, incitement to violence, apology for crime and violation of anti-discrimination law 23,592 (who by any means encourage or incite persecution or hatred against a person or groups of people because of their race, religion, nationality or political ideas).

This occurs after last Thursday, after the announcement by Security Minister Patricia Bullrich of the “Public Order Protocol”, Bregman and Del Caño expressed their rejection of it. As a result of his defense of the right to protest, deputy José Luis Espert threatened on social networks with “jail or bullet” for the leaders of the Left Unity Front.

The judicial presentation made before the Federal Justice warns that “Espert’s publication cannot be understood as a simple outburst and much less an opinion protected by freedom of expression. The statement that we should be attacked with bullets is not a simple statement: it is a threat. Furthermore, the claim that an attack on our lives of such magnitude corresponds to us is understood by followers as a possibility endorsed by a National Representative, to measure the seriousness of the person issuing the threat and its implications,” say Bregman and Del Caño in the complaint.

And they added: “We are not facing a discussion of freedom of expression: we are faced with a plain and simple threat and the possibility of attacks or aggressions being carried out, as already happened at the time against ourselves at the door of Congress. The action “a call, or defending or praising the “bullet” method against those who do not share a thought, a political idea or a political space, is of a serious nature that has its criminal legal consequences.”

After the threats, there were thousands of messages of solidarity with Myriam Bregman and Nicolás del Caño in the face of such an attack: writers, intellectuals, representatives of human rights and women’s rights, representatives of a broad political spectrum, artists, journalists, representatives unions, etc. Likewise, more than 30 national deputies from various blocs and legislators from different provinces presented projects of repudiation of the attack carried out by Espert.
