The bombing of Israeli forces on August 25 against the Nasser Hospital in Khan Youis, southern Gaza range caused the death of at least 20 Palestinians, including journalists and humanitarian workers
The Brazilian government expresses a firm condemnation of the bombing of Israeli forces held on August 25 against the Nasser Hospital in Khan Youis, southern Gaza, which caused the deaths of at least 20 Palestinians – including journalists and humanitarian workers – and the injury of dozen other people.
Hospitals and medical units enjoy special protection by International Humanitarian Law, and attacks on such facilities can configure war crimes, according to the 1949 Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols. Bombing against Nasser Hospital adds to a repeated standard of violations perpetrated by the Israeli government against the Palestinian population. Accountability for such acts is an essential condition to avoid repetition and ensure justice to victims.
The Brazilian government calls on the international community and the competent mechanisms of the United Nations to ensure independent, impartial and transparent investigation, in order to ensure due liability for acts.
By reiterating immediate ceasefire appeal, Brazil urges the Israeli government to interrupt attacks on Gaza’s civilian population, to ensure journalists the right to safely and safely perform their work and raise current restrictions on the entry of international press and humanitarian aid professionals in that territory.
