Meeting between Alckmin and Tinubu marks historical advancement in bilateral relations, focusing on trade, energy, agriculture, mining and cultural exchange
In a meeting scheduled for dialogue and the search for new opportunities, Brazil’s Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and Nigeria President Bola Tinubu gathered on Tuesday (24) in Abuja, Nigerian capital. The meeting highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation between the two countries in strategic sectors such as commerce, agriculture, mining, energy and culture.
Alckmin, who is also Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, led the Brazilian delegation during the II Session of the Brazil-Nigeria dialogue mechanism, held on the same day.
The meeting symbolized an important step in strengthening bilateral relations, with the celebration of new agreements and the commitment to further diversify trade and mutual investments.
“I am very happy to resume the mechanism of strategic dialogue. Brazil gives great importance to its relationship with Nigeria”Alckmin said during the meeting. “The number of signed agreements and the multisectoral composition of our delegations demonstrate the potential for deepening and diversification of bilateral relations.”completed.
The approach between Brazil and Nigeria is not recent. In February 2024, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva had already met with Tinubu during the African Union summit. In addition, the Nigerian leader was in Rio de Janeiro in November last year to participate in the G20 summit, reinforcing ties between the two nations.
During the conversation, Alckmin reiterated the invitation for the Nigerian President to visit Brazil again in July 2025, this time to the BRICS summit, and in November of the same year, to COP30, which will be held in Belém do Pará.
The invitation reinforces Brazil’s role as a global interlocutor on climate and economic issues, and highlighting Nigeria as a strategic partner on the African continent.
The meeting in Abuja not only renewed commitments between the two countries, but also paved the way for new collaborations that can benefit millions of Brazilian and Nigerian citizens, boosting economic growth and cultural exchange. With an increasingly solid relationship, Brazil and Nigeria continue to write a new chapter in their partnership, based on dialogue and search for a more prosperous future.
