Brazil and China join forces to lead innovation in the electricity sector with a technological alliance that promises to boost clean and renewable energy


The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) participated this Sunday (17), in Rio de Janeiro, in the launch of the Alliance for Innovation and Technological Sharing in the Electricity Sector (EISA). The initiative brings together 16 companies, universities and research centers from Brazil and China to promote the exchange of information and technologies that boost the electricity sector in both countries.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the founding entities with the support of the MME, marking an important step towards international cooperation in clean energy.

“At a time when changing the global energy matrix is ​​being discussed, the decarbonization of the planet to safeguard such fundamental climate issues and the preservation of human life, it is important that we also understand that there is an immense opportunity for a new economy (… ). Brazil and China are examples for the production of clean and renewable energy in the world”, highlighted the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira.

Representing the minister, who participated in bilateral meetings during the G20 at the invitation of President Lula, the MME’s National Secretary for Energy Transition and Planning, Thiago Barral, reinforced the Alliance’s impact on the Brazilian electricity sector:

“This approach is fundamental so that we can use Brazil, as well as China, as platforms for the large-scale development and demonstration of innovative solutions for the transformation of the electrical system.”

The event, organized by the State Grid Corporation of China, included lectures on the challenges and solutions of the electricity sector in both countries.

Among EISA’s next actions, a technical mission of Brazilian experts to China is scheduled, focused on high-capacity technologies for energy transmission.

Among the Brazilian entities that signed the Memorandum of Understanding are: National System Operator (ONS)a Energy Research Company (EPE)o Electric Energy Research Center (CEPEL)a Fluminense Federal Universitya COPPETEC Foundationo Innovation Center at the University of São Paulo (InovaUSP)a CPFL Energia ea CET Brazil Electrical Energy Equipment and Technology.

On the Chinese side, we highlight the State Grid Brazil Holding S.A.a Nari Brazila EPPEI Brazilo China Electric Power Research Institutea Tsinghua Universityo State Grid Economic And Technological Research Institutein addition to universities North China Electric Power University e Wuhan University.

With the creation of the Alliance, Brazil and China reaffirm their role as global leaders in the energy transition, strengthening strategic ties and promoting innovation in the electricity sector.

The partnership signals a more sustainable and collaborative future for both countries.
