The Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, declared this Monday (29) during a meeting of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) does not and has never had any intentions hostile actions against Russia, reinforcing the defensive nature of the alliance.

Blinken also addressed the conflict in Ukraine, expressing the hope that Moscow will demonstrate a genuine willingness to negotiate, respecting the basic principles of the international community and the UN Charter, including sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence. He emphasized that a resolution could be reached if these principles were properly affirmed.

These statements come after Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stated on Friday that Russia has never threatened NATO and has no geopolitical or military interests to attack the alliance’s members.

In February, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, also assured that Moscow has no intention of attacking NATO member countries, adding that allegations of a Russian threat are fictitious and used to intimidate the populations of NATO.
