What if the world releases the dollar as the only anchor? That question is above the financial markets while geopolitical tensions increase. A shift in the global monetary landscape seems to be triggered, and in that unrest, Bitwise sees food for his towering Bitcoin (BTC) expectation.
Currency struggle as a fuel for Bitcoin
The American investment firm Bitwise repeats its daring prediction: Bitcoin will be at $ 200,000 at the end of 2025. Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan announced in a blog post of 9 April that according to him, this expectation is still feasible, despite the recent correction on the cryptomarkt.
According to Hougan, the weakening US dollar plays a crucial role in the expected rise in Bitcoin. He refers to the US Dollar Index (DXY), which has fallen more than 7% since the beginning of this year. Historically, Bitcoin performs well when the dollar loses ground.
“Dollar down usually means Bitcoin up,” says Hougan. He doesn’t see that relationship disappearing.
The political context gives its analysis extra charge. In a speech on 7 April, Steve Miran, chairman of the US Council of Economic Advisors, expressed sharp criticism of the role of the dollar as a world reservation. According to him, this system causes major trading problems and undermines American industry. Trump seems to support that course with his recent tariff measures.
On the way to a new monetary era
Hougan looks beyond the short term. He expects the time of one dominant reserve currency to come to an end. According to him, gold and Bitcoin play a much greater role in that new reality.
As soon as the trust in the dollar stagnates, countries and companies have to look for other certainties. According to Hougan, Bitcoin, with its scarcity and global reach, is in a strong position.
Interestingly, there are signals that steps are also taken at geopolitics. According to Vaneck, China and Russia would have recently dealt with some energy payments in Bitcoin. If that pattern continues, it would mean a considerable boost for adoption.
At the time of writing, the Bitcoin rate is $ 81.352, an increase of 5.17% in the last 24 hours.
