Bitcoin Virtual Machine (BVM), a leading Bitcoin rollup-as-a-service provider, recently launched a new analytics and research platform called Bitcoin Heartbeat.

This platform is specifically designed to provide transparent and verifiable real-time data on Bitcoin layer-2 (L2) and layer-3 (L3) rollup projects, with the aim of better understanding the operation and effectiveness of these scaling solutions.

Keeping a Close Eye on the Bitcoin Ecosystem

A press release emphasized that Bitcoin Heartbeat allows users to closely follow and understand the evolving Bitcoin ecosystem. The BVM team noted in an interview that while Bitcoin has become known as a reliable store of value, its utility outside of this function remains limited.

“For example, there are hardly any decentralized applications (DApps) on Bitcoin, unlike platforms like Ethereum and Solana. This is mainly due to technical limitations. To enable Bitcoin consumer apps, rollups are needed that are both fast and cost-efficient,” the team said.

The press release also made it clear that Bitcoin Heartbeat aims to bridge the gap that analysts and the broader community experience when evaluating rollup solutions.

“Despite the hard work of many talented teams to make Bitcoin scalable, it remains challenging to correctly assess the effectiveness and real-time performance of these solutions,” it explained.

Focus on offering ‘liveness metrics’

Bitcoin Heartbeat will focus primarily on offering “liveness metrics,” which will allow users to measure the activity and performance of L2 and L3 rollup solutions on the Bitcoin network. Additionally, the platform will allow users to explore project websites and use explorer functionalities directly from the dashboard.

The lead developer of the BVM team, known as “3700,” stated that Bitcoin Heartbeat is their contribution to the collective effort to further scale Bitcoin. “The more easily accessible and verifiable this data is, the better we can understand our collective progress in scaling Bitcoin.”

On July 17, the team behind Bitcoin Heartbeat also introduced BVM Studio, a no-code tool that simplifies blockchain deployment. The tool offers a visual programming interface similar to Lego building blocks, allowing users to easily create custom blockchains without any programming knowledge. While this solution may not offer the same level of customization as fully coded alternatives, the BVM team is committed to continually adding new modules and options to increase flexibility.
