Five-year-old Liam Ramos and his father were released after being arrested by ICE and held at the Texas immigration center for more than a week

A five-year-old boy and his father returned to Minneapolis on Sunday after being released from an immigration detention center in Texas where they were held for more than a week.

The information was released by US Congressman Joaquin Castro, Democrat from Texas.

“Liam is already home. With his hat and his backpack. Thank you to everyone who demanded Liam’s freedom,” Castro wrote in a post on the social network X. “We won’t stop until all the children and families are home.”

The politician stated that he personally picked up Liam Conejo Ramos and his father, Adrian Conejo Arias, from the detention center and accompanied them back to Minneapolis.

The arrest occurred on January 20, when Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents approached the family.
The case gained widespread national attention after a viral photo was circulated that showed Liam, wearing a bunny hat and a plaid coat, being detained in the driveway of his home, shortly after returning from preschool.

At the time, activists and immigrant advocates alleged that the child had been used as bait in an operation to try to arrest his mother, who is also the target of immigration procedures. The image of the boy, captured in an everyday and childish moment, became a symbol of indignation against tactics considered aggressive in immigration operations involving families.
