Defense Minister Luis Petri defined the integration of the Navy into a force directly directed by North American imperialism, led by the Commander of the United States Fifth Fleet, Vice Admiral George M. Wikoff. The Second Commander of this force is an English officer, Commodore Mark Anderdon. These are the Combined Maritime Forces, whose mission is to patrol the commercial waters of the Middle East and respond directly to the aforementioned North American Fifth Fleet. Argentina joined last month, but will send troops starting next year.

This is a new step in the openly pro-American policy of the government of Javier Milei, who has been making gestures in this regard since the beginning of his presidency. In his speech at the UN a few weeks ago, he directly supported the genocidal policy of the State of Israel and proposed the “abandonment of historical neutrality” in the face of military conflicts involving countries with which Javier Milei expresses affinity, such as Israel itself or the United States.

It is in this context that, although the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) do not have direct participation in any conflict, this gesture of integration into this pro-imperialist force seeks to deepen a political-military closeness with imperialism in the midst of the Zionist advance of the State of Israel on Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon (among others) and the threats of an escalation in the confrontation with Iran. At the same time, there is the possibility, due to the function and geographical location where this force is located, that there may be the possibility of entering into combat with the Houthi forces of Yemen, although in that case, in order to allow the participation of troops Argentina should first go through the approval of the National Congress.

The FMC are mainly led by the United States and the United Kingdom and have the participation of several other countries such as Albania, Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Djibouti, Ecuador, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece , India, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Singapore, Spain , Sri Lanka, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.

Although concrete participation with Argentine military personnel would take place starting in 2025, with this measure Milei and his cabinet drag Argentina to position itself as the tailgate of Washington’s interests at a time of growing geopolitical disputes. Interests that today are fueling the Israeli war machine that has already massacred at least 42,000 people and is now bombing and invading Lebanon by land, where at least another 1,400 deaths have already accumulated. A massacre that must be repudiated from Argentina and throughout the world.
