In a move that promises to strengthen the Brazilian economy and promote technological advances, Latam Airlines has announced a significant investment of US$2 billion in Brazil over the next two years. The agreement was signed in collaboration with the Brazilian government.

The investment will focus on improving products, technologies and services for passengers, as well as expanding aircraft maintenance activities. The announcement was made during a meeting between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the airline group in the Chilean capital, Santiago.

During the meeting, Latam Airlines Brazil signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE), aiming at the qualification and employment of specialized labor. The main focus will be on the LATAM MRO facilities in São Carlos (SP), responsible for the maintenance of 60% of the LATAM group’s fleet.

The company highlighted that the aircraft maintenance center in São Carlos has the potential to become an important Brazilian aerospace hub. “The agreement signed in Santiago foresees a joint technical work plan between Latam Airlines Brasil and MTE to explore opportunities for qualification and employment of specialized labor in Brazil in the coming months,” the statement added.

Latam Airlines currently employs 19,000 people in Brazil, including 1,800 at the maintenance center in São Carlos. This investment not only strengthens the company’s position in the country, but also contributes to economic growth and the development of the Brazilian aviation industry.
