AEX price breaks through all resistance and starts 2025 strong

The Amsterdam AEX has started the year 2025 well and broke through a lot of important resistance in a short time. After the AEX reached its provisional all-time high of ~950 points in July 2024, the stock market index entered a downward trend. After a bottom of around 860 points, the AEX has now climbed back to 914 points.

The recovery of the AEX?

The AEX therefore appears to be recovering from its months-long correction.

For the start of the year, there is already an impressive 4.04% return on the boards. And with this, the AEX is even doing better than the American S&P 500, which has a return of 2.18% after the first trading weeks of 2025.

Of course, we shouldn’t celebrate too early, because the year has only just started, but the AEX is certainly opening strong. Now the Amsterdam stock exchange index still has to keep this up. That was the big problem last year.

Last year the AEX started with an increase of more than 20% and ultimately ended 2024 with a plus of ~10%.

All resistance seems broken

After the price explosion of the past few days, all resistance seems to have been broken for the AEX, see the graph below.

A lot of resistance had built up below the 200-day average (red line). After that was broken, the price shot up to its current level.

Now the question is whether the AEX can continue. Does that work? Then a new all-time high should be possible in the foreseeable future, and we can even look at the magical price of 1,000 points. Exciting times for the AEX price.
