China, which experienced a similar situation in 1999 when its embassy in Yugoslavia was hit by an airstrike led by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the United States, in which seven people died, expressed solidarity with Iran. “We are sorry the sadness and pain of the Iranian government and people”, said the Chinese representative to the UN.

The Chinese representative recalled the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations, which establishes the inviolability of diplomatic missions and warned that impunity for despicable acts without a legal basis would encourage even more risky behavior.

The Council adopted Resolution 2728 last week, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The Chinese representative called on the international community to ensure the implementation of this resolution so that the Muslim community does not have to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan amid crossfire.

China highlighted the deteriorating situation in Gaza and the risk of escalating the conflict, as well as the increasingly precarious situation in the region. The frequency of Israel’s attacks in Syria and Lebanon has been described as a serious violation of the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the countries involved, exacerbating tensions in the region.

The Asian country urged the protagonists and countries with great influence over Israel to play a constructive role in easing tensions in the region, restoring peace and stability in the Middle East.
