Participation in the elections to the Cortes of Castilla y León at 6:00 p.m. has risen almost one and a half points compared to that same figure in 2022, up to 53.18%. In the last elections, this figure in turn dropped two points compared to 2019, when it reached 53.7%.
In the first participation data in the morning at 11:30 a.m., the greatest percentage increase was recorded in the provinces of León and Zamora. In the third advance of participation, at 6:00 p.m., the vote grew more in León (2.6%), Zamora (2.4%) and Palencia and Soria (2%). The province of Ávila is the only one where attendance at the polls decreased at this time (-0.1%).
By municipalities, Valladolid, Medina del Campo, Laguna de Duero or Arroyo de la Encomienda, all of them in the Valladolid province, are the towns that experience the highest participation, followed by others such as Astorga, Palencia, Burgos, Soria or León, all of them with a participation greater than 52% at 6:00 p.m.
Among the municipalities with more than 10,000 inhabitants, participation only fell in the city of Ávila, from 52.4% to 51.6%, and the only provincial capital that did not reach 50% participation at 6:00 p.m. was Zamora.
The great unknown of this day is how much the extreme right will rise after in the previous elections the PP needed Vox to govern, although this support lasted only two years until the breakup of the extreme right party in the regional governments. Since 1987, the Popular Party has governed the autonomous community uninterruptedly.
For now, election day is passing without incident after the polling stations opened their doors at 9:00 this morning and the candidates of the main political parties cast their votes at the polls. In total, there are 2,097,768 Castilian and Leonese who are called to exercise their right this Sunday.
The only moment of greatest tension that has been recorded this Sunday was when the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente from Valladolid, went to vote: a Vox representative addressed him shouting “resignation” and was reprimanded by the socialist representatives present there.
