In Milei’s Argentina, 22,000 companies closed between November 2023 and 2025. And so far in 2026, closures and layoffs are falling in dominoes. In recent days, news of families left on the streets has multiplied. The most emblematic resistance is carried out by the tire factory workers and families FATE. But other factories such as TN Platex, the largest textile company in the country. Every day, there are workers who face closures in different provinces.
On Wednesday, Javier Milei gave another speech invited by VISAwhich has just absorbed PRISMA and NewPay to expand its financial business. “Credit becomes a powerful tool for social advancement, allowing people to access financing without having to comply with guarantees from traditional banking entities,” said the president. At par millions of working families endure unpayable credit debts as a result of financing basic consumption with credit cards.
He crushing of income and wageswhich has an impact on the fall in consumption and the economic recession, is combined with commercial openness. It is the worst drop since the late ’90s. And the consequences of the war for oil and territorial control in the Middle East, declared by USA and the State of Israelcan make things worse.
To illustrate, in recent days closures were recorded in:
- The San Roque refrigerator in Morón (Buenos Aires).
- Alimento Refrigerados SA (Arsa), under license from Sancor (Buenos Aires and Córdoba).
- Beer Market, distributor of alcoholic beverages (CABA and others).
- Panpack (Tucumán), manufactures bags for agriculture and industrial ropes.
- Dabra, shoe factory (Catamarca).
- The VVC textile company (Catamarca).
- NEBA, NEBA refrigerator and freezer factory (Catamarca).
- El Palacio de la papa frita, a restaurant on the busy Corrientes Avenue in CABA.
- The list goes on and is diverse: factories and businesses of all kinds.
Just a week ago, Congress approved a slave labor reform that favors layoffs by lowering employers’ compensation costs. It is what the powerful planned and what is happening.
For this, the government bought the votes of the PRO, the UCR, and sectors linked to Peronist governors. The union centers, with the CGT in the leadshowed once again their cowardly calling for betrayal.
Now Milei threatens with “90 projects destined to create the legal architecture of free Argentina.” Allied to the plans of US imperialism and concessional with China’s businesses: the plan is to take over the economic and social structure of the country, to benefit of large financial companies, agropower and mining and oil multinationals.
The country is drifting, without a handbrake, also due to the responsibility of the large employers without a countrywho are the same people who brought Javier Milei to power, gave officials to his government and wrote the slave reform. And the same ones who, half a century ago, were complicit in the genocide: they knocked on the doors of the barracks and handed over their workers to torture camps, when they did not install them in their own factories as in the case of Ledesma.
That team they call the national bourgeoisie, crows from the UIA and other unions; but They indulge in the destruction of industries and jobs. Always attached to the businesses of the United States and large foreign capital. They destroy productive forces and, while crying for subsidies, they consider plans to become importers, or put their capital in the areas benefited by the militias state. The great businessmen, such as Paolo Rocca o Madanes Quintanillathey never really lose.
Now, Miguel Ángel Pichetto wants to show himself as a political representative of corporate cowardice, with a “national front” that includes the CFK sector and the governors complicit in the adjustment. Where can they take us?
The brakes will not be put on by any fraction of the private sector. The only social force that can provide a way out of industry and the destruction of jobs is the working people.. The true defense is in the hands of the true producers, the creators of national wealth, and those of us who make schools, health, feeders and all the networks of society function daily.
The working people, if they organize independently of economic power and if they free their forces from the ties and divisions imposed on them by traitor leaders, can tear down the entire Milei and IMF regime (today in the hands of Donald Trump). And, on that path, he can not only avoid destruction, but also can radically transform all relations and forms of production.
With every company facing mass layoffs and closures, the occupation as resistance (as they maintain in FATE) and the worker management (as happened in Zanón/FaSinPat or in Matriculation) is a first step for workers take control about their personal and collective crisis. Necessarily allies in networks of solidarity with the communities, with the neighborhoods, with professionals and all the organizational bodies that can be created by the people willing to fight for our future.
But it would not be enough with isolated efforts. To go all the way and reverse the planned “industricide” and national surrender: it is also necessary to take measures of worker and popular control over the entire economy of the country.
Everything has to plan in a democratic manner, placing scientific and technological development and inventiveness based on the needs of the majority and environmental care. Thus it would be possible, for example, to reduce the working day (now from 12 hours) to 6 hoursto work less and everyone work. And reject the chains of submission with the IMF and foreign impositions; in order to advance nationalize (nationalize) the main productive branches, banking and financial activity, foreign trade, under the control of the working people.
If the working people take the reins of the national situation, they can create a new form of political and social organization, a new type of State, without bureaucrats or capitalists. That is, it can advance in the construction of a socialism from below in rupture with the current sepoy capitalist and undemocratic order.
The Left militates, organizes and fights every day with this perspective of the future. It is not easy, but neither is it easy to bear the consequences of the current decadence, in a world plagued by wars and environmental destruction.
All this is possible in perspective. If we start by organizing and deploying – in the streets, in each workplace, in each neighborhood – an independent social force of those who agree and negotiate with the Government, businessmen and the United States.
If the discontent and anger is applied to the current union leadership. And it creates, along the way, new forms of democratic organization. If we reconquer (and refound) the unions and mass organizations for the struggle (and not for the benefit of castes far from the people).
If we develop a true rebellion, an insurrection against the tyrannies of the 21st century. With general strikes, accompanied by pickets, mobilizations of hundreds of thousands, with new forms of democratic organization to coordinate a national struggle, with self-defense organizations against repression and organized violence by the powerful.
To implement this strategy with full power, we need our own political tool. A party of workers without union bureaucrats or bosses. The way is the permanent organization and persistent struggle of broad sectors of the working people and the popular majorities.
Those who fight for this perspective today are the thousands of workers, retirees and young people who organize in the PTSnext to Myriam Bregman y Nicolás del Caño. With the Left as it is today it is not enough, we need thousands and thousands more to embrace a militancy that puts a handbrake on destruction and advance in the construction of a future that is worth living.
From The Daily Left We invite you to join, on Saturday, March 14, the first assembly of our Community, together with the journalist Fernando Rosso and the teacher and deputy Christian Castillo.
