Trump adds a new setback after launching war on Iran together with Israel. If last week, before the State of the Union speech, previous polls had recorded that his level of unpopularity already reached 60%, the beginning of the attacks in the Middle East generated more rejection. According to a new poll from Ipsos and Reuters, only 27% of Americans approve of Trump’s attacks on Iran.

The report published by Reuters states that “Only one in four Americans approves of attacks that killed Iranian leaderwhile about half – including one in four Republicans – believe President Donald Trump is too willing to use military force, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll that concluded on Sunday.

Around the 27% of respondents said they supported attacks on Iranwhile the 43% disapproved and 29% were unsure. About nine in ten respondents said they had heard at least a little about the attacks, which began early Saturday morning.

The survey shows that the level of approval of the attacks is only 7% among Democrats, 19% among independents and 55% among Republicans. The latter represents an important problem since only one in two Republicans openly supports the war launched by Trump and Netanyahu.

The survey also showed that the 56% of Americans believe Trumpwho has also ordered attacks in Venezuela, Syria and Nigeria in recent months, uses military force excessively to advance US interests. The vast majority of Democrats (87%) shared this opinion, as did 23% of Republicans and 60% of those who do not identify with either political party.

The survey was carried out during the attacks against Iran by the United States and Israel, and ended before the US military announced its first casualtieswhich could result in even worse data for Trump.

This is important since the Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 42% of Republicans said they would be less likely to support the campaign against Iran if it leads to “US troops in the Middle East being killed or injured.” That is to say the level of approval of Trump’s attacks among Republicans would drop from 55% to 42% if there are American casualties.

Trump’s presidential approval rating fell slightly to 39%, one percentage point below a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted between February 18 and 23.

Los Attacks on Iran began three days before the first primaries of the US midterm electionswhich will determine whether Trump’s Republicans maintain their majority in Congress over the next two years. Reuters/Ipsos polls have consistently shown that voters’ main concern heading into the elections is the economymuch more than foreign affairs.

Around the 45% of respondents, including 34% of Republicans and 44% of independents, said they would be less likely to support the campaign against Iran if gas or oil prices increased in the United States.

It is Brent crude oil prices rose 10% on Mondayup to approximately $80 per barrel as reported by oil operators. Analysts predicted that prices could reach $100 due to the war against Iran and the uncertain scenario in the Middle East.
