From early in the morning, the image was clear. The CGT triumvirate – again – had been erased from a day of struggle, but there was still action in the streets.
The day dawned with a cut in the Panamericanawith the presence of FATE workers and political and social organizations. Shortly after, the epicenter moved to Obeliskand from there he went towards the Congress of the Nation to converge with other sectors and repudiate the sanction of the labor reform that the Senate is discussing this Friday, seeking its definitive sanction.
But the surprises began to arrive when the security forces went, in their repressive routine, to vacate the Obelisk cut and found themselves overwhelmed. Despite the limits that the betrayal of the CGT placed on it – as there was no strike or even a call to march – FATE workers, teachers from the province and capital, Garrahan nurses, students, retirees, workers from here and there showed something that surprised the police, the governments and many media outlets: They resisted the gases and the sticks, they advanced, they retreated, but they never left. They reorganized and cut again. Reinforcements arrived from more sectors and the street was won again. The police, disoriented, helpless, could not prevent the protest.
Along with them were also Myriam Bregman, NicolĂ¡s del Caño, Luis Zamora, Andrea D’Atri, Celeste Fierro, among others. The ones that are always there. Especially when the potatoes burn.

For hours, the Obelisk and its surroundings became a national chain. The national and city governments, apologists for repression and curtailing the right to protest, found themselves ridiculous in the face of these sectors’ willingness to fight. Among the protesters, the faces of tension quickly transformed into smiles, into pride: “We won the streets.” They couldn’t beat us.
But not only in them. As the day progressed, the media and social media impact was enormous, and so was the sympathy with those who marched. While the CGT was being erased, The support for the fighters was proportional to the anger that millions have with the slave labor reform, yes, but also with the closure of FATE and other companies, with layoffs, with salaries and retirements that are not enough. Also the anger with the senators and deputies who vote for precariousness and adjustment, including the collaborators of Peronism.
That’s why when they marched, something even deeper began to manifest: it wasn’t just those who marched, those who cut, who, on a day without a strike, were inevitably a minority. But as the day wore on it began to appear that the thousands who were in the streets had a enormous popular support that came from the balconies, was felt with honking horns, with workers from the gastronomy and other businesses who went out to the sidewalks to applaud and shout “FATE is not closed” and “unity of the workers.”

In the next few hours, the Senate – due to the betrayal of the CGT and the false opponents – proposes finish sanctioning the slave labor reform. The demonstrations in front of the National Congress continue, both with the left and combative unionism and with the FreSu (UOM, oil workers, ATE and others) who called although without strikes in many unions. Other sectors will also join in and cacerolazos cannot be ruled out, as they are already being called for Sunday night when Milei speaks on the national network to open the ordinary sessions of Congress.
But And one of the conclusions of today’s day that still continues is that it showed one more symptom that the fight does not end, but that it has just begun. Although Milei, Bullrich and all the great economic power do not like it, now They will have to go from papers to reality and the resistance will be felt in every workplace, with hundreds or thousands of fights in the coming period in which the real battle will be played out. Also in fights over salaries, like that of the teachers who are going on strike this Monday. Among many others. It won’t be easy, of course. But nothing is said. The labor reform and adjustment plans can be approved in the National Congress thanks to accomplices and collaborationists, but with enormous social opposition, in the context of an economic crisis. The bureaucratic caste may be detaching itself from reality.

That’s why FATE is not just another conflict. It is a witness case to demonstrate that the application of the labor reform will find resistance in the working class together with the people organized from below, also with the neighborhoods – like in San Fernando where there is a call to surround the company to resist a possible eviction – organizing democratically, coordinating, fighting to recover internal and unions, forcing the bureaucracy to get out of its comfortable armchairs and joining the retirees, the youth, the students. Also debating another political project, because Peronism – once again – showed that it is boiling due to its fundamental collaboration to advance Milei’s plans. The PTS in the Left Front played against the labor reform from the first moment and in every struggle. The great recognition of our party by broad sectors is a great point of support that must be redoubled by multiplying militancy and also discussing the idea of building a great party of the working class.
