The US Secret Service announced this Sunday that it has killed a man in the early hours of this Sunday, at 1.30 am, after he had entered the security perimeter of Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump’s tourist complex in Palm Beach, Florida.
Although Trump usually spends weekends at his resort, he was at the White House this Saturday night. First lady Melania Trump was also at the White House on Saturday night.
The name of the person who was shot has not been released, although the Secret Service has reported that the person was in his 20s.
According to the Secret Service, he was “spotted at the north gate of the Mar-a-Lago property carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a can of fuel.”
Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy shot him, the agency said.
The Palm Beach sheriff has stated that “the agents confronted a white man within the perimeter of Mar-a-Lago, who was carrying a gun and the can of gasoline. He put the can on the ground after being ordered to do so by the agents, but he raised the gun and at that moment he was shot. He died instantly.”
Trump has already suffered threats against his life before. He was injured during an assassination attempt during a presidential campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024.
Then, on September 15, 2024, a man with a rifle was captured after waiting near Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach while the president played golf.
The assailant was sentenced to life in prison earlier this month.
