The negotiation between the PP and Vox to invest María Guardiola in Extremadura is not progressing. The requests of the extreme right are excessive and do not comply with the “proportionality” and “responsibility” that Alberto Núñez Feijóo has asked of his theoretical allies. The national leadership of the PP does not want to hear about a repeat election that is gaining strength on the horizon. And they support the public petition launched by Guardiola to the PSOE: “We prefer abstention than governing in coalition with Vox.” An option, yes, that they believe is very distant, so there is no other option than to negotiate with Santiago Abascal.

This was expressed by sources from the PP leadership this Wednesday in the halls of Congress, where a debate on the Adamuz accident is being held. Feijóo’s team assures that “postponing” the negotiation in Extremadura “is bad news.”

“There must be an investiture as soon as possible,” point out the same sources, who do not want to hear about a new electoral call that would take place at the end of June and that would almost coincide in time with those in Andalusia.

“Never repeat,” the same sources have assured. “No repetition [electoral] Things have changed a lot,” they explain from the PP, who recall that neither in 2016 nor in 2019 was there “any change in majorities.”

The national leadership of the PP agrees with Guardiola that Vox’s demands are excessive for the result that Abascal’s had. The PP achieved 43% of the vote, and Vox 17%. 60% support at the polls that, today, does not guarantee a Government on the right due to the dispute between the two parties.

“If they don’t want to reduce anything, the scenario becomes complicated,” they say in Genoa about Vox’s claims. Guardiola pointed out this week that there is a 90% programmatic coincidence with Vox, but that it is “the positions” that prevent an agreement. Because Vox wants advice and a specific budget for each one that guarantees they launch their program.

Guardiola has launched a public petition to the PSOE to abstain and allow his inauguration without having to submit to Vox. An idea that the Feijóo team supports.

“If they want to stop the extreme right, the way is to invest Guardiola,” they indicate to the PSOE from the leadership of the PP. The same sources assure that if the socialists want to be “the dam for the extreme right,” as they stated during the campaign, they must “abstain from investing Guardiola.”

Shortly after this information was published, the PP leadership qualified their words. “In an absolutely general sense, we prefer solitary governments rather than handing over power to other parties,” point out the same sources, who give as an example the case of Cantabria in 2023, when the PRC abstained to invest the PP and prevent the entry of Vox into the autonomous government.

“Evidently, we prefer not to hand over power or advice to other parties, but that would only happen through the abstentions of political formations that understand that we have won the elections and that it is up to us to form a government,” they add from the PP. “Since neither Vox nor PSOE intend to abstain in exchange for nothing, we only have to explore obtaining support in exchange for something. And that something can be seats on the government councils,” they explain.

“With the PSOE we obviously do not want to govern, and therefore the only possible option is to analyze the political context with Vox in each autonomous community. We prefer a government alone but since that involves impossible abstentions, we have to explore other options,” they say.
