The President of the United States, Donald Trump, again raised his tone against Iran this Wednesday by stating that a new US military attack would be more severe if Tehran does not agree to negotiate an agreement on its nuclear program. The statement was made amid US military movements in the Middle East region and repeated criticism from the American government of Iranian nuclear development.
The warning was released by Trump in a publication on the Truth Social network, in which the president said he hoped Iran would quickly accept negotiations that would result in an agreement that excludes the production of nuclear weapons. According to him, the deadline for an understanding would be running out and the absence of an agreement could lead to a harsher military response from the United States.
Trump also mentioned that a previous warning made to the Iranian government was followed by military action and stated that, in a new scenario of confrontation, the impact would be greater. In the same publication, the president declared that another naval force would be on its way to the region, without detailing its specific destination or objective.
The positioning occurs in the context of the policy adopted by Trump towards Iran since his first term, when he withdrew the United States from the nuclear agreement signed in 2015 between Tehran and international powers. Since then, the American government has defended bilateral negotiations under new terms and maintained diplomatic and military pressure on the country.
On the Iranian side, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said he had not been in recent contact with US special envoy Steve Witkoff and denied that Iran had requested negotiations. The statement was published by Iranian state media.
