The Russian government warned this Thursday that possible military action by the United States against Iran could cause widespread instability in the Middle East and generate effects considered dangerous for regional security. Moscow stated that, despite the increase in tensions, it still sees room for a negotiated exit involving Iran’s nuclear program.
The statement was made by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov in response to recent demonstrations by US President Donald Trump, who once again pressured Tehran to accept negotiations on nuclear weapons under the threat of a possible military offensive. According to Peskov, resorting to force would not resolve differences and could worsen the geopolitical scenario in the region.
For the Russian government, diplomatic channels between the United States and Iran remain open and have not been exhausted. Peskov stated that the priority should be strengthening negotiation mechanisms, with calls for restraint from all involved. He highlighted that coercive measures tend to expand the conflict, rather than offering a lasting solution.
The spokesperson warned that any military action could destabilize the already fragile security system in the Middle East, producing effects that would go beyond direct confrontation between Washington and Tehran. In Moscow’s assessment, the use of force would have the potential to generate regional chaos and consequences that would be difficult to control.
The Russian statements come in a context of growing alignment between Moscow and Tehran. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, the two countries have deepened their political and strategic cooperation, culminating in the signing of a long-term partnership treaty, valid for 20 years, signed in January 2025.
