Brazil and other countries were invited, but have not yet expressed themselves

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, officially launched his Peace Council, which seeks, according to him, to pacify and rebuild Gaza. The launch took place at the Davos Economic Forum, Switzerland.

In his speech, this Thursday morning (22), the North American said that “everyone wants to be part of the Peace Council”. However, several invited countries, including Brazil, have not yet responded to Trump’s invitation. Norway, Sweden, France, Slovenia and the United Kingdom have already announced that they should not join the group.

According to Trump, 59 countries are already lined up to participate in his group but, officially, only 22 nations have committed to the group created by the North American president. They are: Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Jordan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Morocco, Paraguay, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

Conceived, created and chaired by Trump, the council is not clear about its real legitimacy to propose and execute any peace measure in foreign lands. It was created, according to the American president, to deal with Gaza issues, but he stated that the council could act on other world issues.

He criticized the UN, but stated that his group intends to work with the body. “When this council is fully formed, we will be able to do practically anything we want. And we will do it in conjunction with the United Nations.”

After his speech, Trump signed a document formally creating the Peace Council. Alongside him were other leaders such as Argentine president Javier Milei; Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán; Prabowo Subianto, President of Indonesia and Ilham Aliye, President of Azerbaijan.

The invited countries, if they accept, will have a three-year mandate. To have a permanent seat on Trump’s Peace Council, interested parties will have to pay US$1 billion, a fund that will be managed exclusively by the North American.
