This Saturday, January 24, federal agents killed intensive care nurse and community activist Alex Pretti in cold blood after he tried to protect one of his neighbors. The Trump administration was quick to present a false narrative that completely distorted the facts to justify Pretti’s murder. Pretti’s parents have released a statement to share the truth about their son, which we reproduce below.
We are heartbroken, but also very angry.
Alex was a kind soul who cared deeply about his family and friends, as well as the American veterans he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis Veterans Hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in the world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see the impact he has had.
I don’t use the term “hero” lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The disgusting lies the administration has told about our son are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when he is attacked by Trump’s murderous and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand raised above his head as he tried to protect the woman who had just been shoved by ICE, all while being sprayed with pepper spray.
