The Judicial Police unit of the Civil Guard that investigates the Adamuz train accident last Sunday, in which at least 43 people died, already has in its possession the recordings from the security cameras of the Adamuz technical station. This video surveillance system, focused only on protecting the facilities, could provide images of the collision between two trains, an Iryo between Malaga and Madrid, and an Alvia from Madrid to Huelva. In addition, the agents have already taken a statement from the Iryo driver.
According to investigation sources, consulted by this newspaper, one of the first actions of the investigators at the scene of the accident was to locate all the available security cameras. Adif almost immediately facilitated the recording to the Civil Guard. Not only from the moment of the accident, but practically all the footage that the cameras have recorded even from previous days. At the moment, the content of the images has not been revealed, but the agents are reviewing it. frame a frame in search of answers to what could have happened on Sunday night on the Adamuz high-speed line.
The agents in charge of the investigation, led by the Judicial Police unit of the armed institute in Córdoba with the support of the Criminalistics Service, transferred to the area from Madrid, have also taken a statement from the driver of the Iryo as a witness. The driver already explained in the audios recorded by the Atocha control center how at first he thought he had suffered a “snag” with the catenary and did not know that he had collided with an Alvia that he had just crossed. All proceedings are being sent to the Investigative Court number two of Montoro, which coordinates the investigation.
The sources detail that the work is being carried out meticulously and that it is being slow. In the area, work is still being done to search for bodies and human remains, so everything is being combed almost to the millimeter. Every time a new body has appeared, all visual inspection work has been suspended and the corresponding judicial protocol has been activated. In fact, researchers are coming under some pressure to work faster.
On the other hand, and in parallel to the investigation, the Civil Guard is searching for the last two missing persons who were traveling in the Alvia and who have not yet been located. The agents have reviewed all the cameras in all the stations on the line between Madrid and the scene of the accident. Thus, they have been able to certify that these two passengers did not get off the train at any time and it is clear that they did get on in Madrid. For this reason, they consider that their bodies must be among the remains of the crashed Alvia that have not yet been able to be removed.
In fact, the Civil Guard works delicately in this area. The jobs are complex. There are two carriages completely destroyed and turned into a mass of iron. There are pieces that weigh tons and heavy machinery is needed to intervene. But it is being done little by little and in layers, in search of any type of clue and always with the possibility of finding a new corpse.
For this, dogs from the Cinecological service of the Civil Guard are being used, trained for this type of situations. The animals also search the entire environment of the accident. There are pieces of large tonnage, such as the boogies of both trains, which were thrown hundreds of meters away.
