Mario Argollo, executive secretary of the COB, together with the rest of the union leadership, proposed making a parallel decree with the positive points of the norm, to which they have only obtained the refusal of the government. Consequently, Social organizations no longer talk about blockades or marches, but rather consider that a “national revolution” is coming.
The COB leader said: “We have to stand up to the Government because unfortunately it flatly refuses to repeal this damned decree, despite the fact that we had expressed every intention that the good points be rescued and another decree be drafted in parallel (…), clarifying to everyone that this has already become a national revolution.”
On Friday alone, more than 50 blockade points were reported throughout the country with the sole request to repeal Decree 5503.
The COB had already requested protection against Decree 5503, to which the First Constitutional Chamber of Santa Cruz rejected it and considered that this route is not suitable to question the constitutionality of a legal norm.
For Argollo, “… justice serves the Government and they have said that they were going to change that. The popular action in the city of Santa Cruz has been favorable to them, practically because they have the power. We feel disappointed in our justice”.
The leader called on all sectors to join the pressure measures against Decree 5503, which he considers worse than Supreme Decree 21060, promulgated in 1985.
The situation in Bolivia seems to be heading towards a new leap in the class struggle. In the tradition of this country, the working class has carried out great historical deeds, where they showed their strength to confront and defeat the power of the economic elite. That path is the one that must be promoted.
