The President gave his ministers and other prominent government officials the book “Defending the Indefensible” by economist Walter Block, with which they all then posed for a photo, displaying broad smiles. Among them, the former Minister of Security Patricia Bullrich and the “brain” of the labor counter-reform, Federico Sturzzeneger, look particularly radiant. Also the Chief of Staff and spokesperson Manuel Adorni looks radiant with his recently received copy of this book. A clear political act of support for the ideas expressed there.

It is a writing that makes an explicit apology for drug trafficking, particularly exemplifying heroin trafficking: “Therefore, the figure we should consider heroic is that of the vilified drug trafficker, in that of the highly regarded ‘anti-vice’ agent.” A source of inspiration for the extensive collaboration and fundamental complicity of police forces in the drug trafficking business?

The book also gives an unexpected function to “narcos”: “The drug trafficker is responsible for lowering the price of the drug, while the forces of ‘law and order’ are to blame for the price going up, since they interfere in the trafficker’s activity.” A true delirium that also leaves undifferentiated the place of the large cartels that monopolize drug trafficking (and are precisely the ones who can raise the price) and that of the retailer or dealer.

Block’s volume, with its hilarious argument, also questions the police role that the repressor Patricia Bulrrich so promotes: “Assuming that the police’s functions are harmful to the general public, we can infer that, in the long run, the less active the police officer is, the less harmful he will be to the public. Most of the police force, perhaps aware of this, do everything possible to avoid harming people, that is, leaving aside their tasks.” What will be the harmful functions of the police for the perpetrator claimed by Milei? But it does not seem to refer to the repression of social protest or to the free way for violence against women.

What is clear is that the spirit of José Luis Espert, accused of his ties to drug trafficker Fred Machado, is still present in the libertarian cabinet. They are the same ones who propose to destroy the rights of the working class and the great majorities.
