The call was at 7 p.m., but long before, the corner of San Martín and pedestrian Sarmiento was overflowing with people with signs and flags in defense of water. Again, in Mendoza the water is defended in the streets.
Thousands of people, with a strong presence of young people, workers and students, filled the center to reject the San Jorge mining project, demonstrating once again that there is no social license for polluting mega-mining.
After the noise, we moved through the streets of the center towards the provincial Legislature, with people joining in on every corner with applause and noise.
#NOW HUGE noise ⚠️ in defense of the water of #Mendoza culminates in mobilization! A great struggle is brewing with thousands of young people at the forefront willing to confront Cornejo’s plan and the PSJ multinational that intends to poison the Mendoza River and loot our common goods! pic.twitter.com/FcsBDyg3P9

“There is a smell of 2019,” is heard over and over again, in reference to the historic fight that swept away the UCR and PJ pact to modify the law that protects Mendoza’s water in favor of mining companies.
Cornejo intends to rush everything and vote next week on the Environmental Impact Declaration in the Senate (it already has half the approval of deputies) to prevent the popular mobilization from developing. But when we say that in Mendoza there is no social license, it is not an empty phrase, thousands of people mobilized in almost all the departments of the province this weekend and today’s mobilization was massive.

In Mendoza, water is defended in the streets. Despite the Government’s provocations, the actions will continue all week in the province and next Monday a caravan will leave from Uspallata that will travel through several departments and will arrive in the City of Mendoza on Tuesday, when it is estimated that the project will be discussed.
