The AEX index is again convincingly in the green today. Around 10:40 am the Amsterdam stock exchange is trading at 968.29 points, an increase of 0.75 percent. The AEX thus continues the upward trend with which it started the new trading week yesterday.
Optimism after breakthrough in American shutdown
Investors are responding positively to growing confidence that the long shutdown in the United States will soon come to an end. This development provides relief to global markets and also boosts sentiment in Amsterdam.
Adyen takes the lead, chip funds in demand
Within the AEX, technology shares in particular are taking the lead. Payment company Adyen rose 3.6 percent, making it the biggest winner of the morning.
Chip companies are also benefiting from the positive stock market sentiment. ASML climbs more than 2 percent and Besi is 1.6 percent higher. Investors appear to have renewed confidence in the growth prospects of the semiconductor sector, which was still under pressure earlier this year.
