Judge Juan Carlos Peinado has filed the case against the current Secretary General of the Presidency, Judith Alexandra Gómez, after she gave a statement this Sunday and answered the questions of her lawyer and the judge himself, legal sources have reported. Peinado charged Gómez 11 days ago because he held the same position as Félix Bolaños, whom the Supreme Court refused to charge, and which was also held by Francisco Martín, the current Government delegate in Madrid, who remains under investigation.

Judith Alexandra Gómez has explained before the judge that the position of advisor Cristina Álvarez, Begoña Gómez’s assistant, does not depend on the structure that she directs, the General Secretariat of the Presidency but on the Cabinet, despite which Peinado led the case against her in one of his last moves. Advisor Cristina Álvarez will be one of the people who will sit before a jury court if Peinado’s case is successful. He will do it together with the wife of the President of the Government, Francisco Martín, and the businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés.

Judith Alexandra Gómez gave a statement this Sunday as a suspect of participating in the alleged embezzlement involving the work of Cristina Álvarez for Begoña Gómez in relation to the Complutense University. One of the issues that Gómez has explained to questions from her lawyer, the sources consulted explain, is that she did not hold the position in Moncloa in the years in which Álvarez wrote emails on behalf of Gómez for the Complutense chair. Furthermore, advisor Álvarez does not depend organically or functionally on her, she has reported.

Peinado has filed the proceedings against Judith Alexandra Gómez by word of mouth, once he has heard her in a statement and after carrying out the unprecedented procedure of asking the parties if they would appeal the file. The popular prosecution, which had requested Gómez’s statement as a witness – it was Peinado who, on his own initiative, made her a defendant – has said that it reserves the right to appeal the aforementioned file.

Subsequently, Peinado continued to interrogate the witnesses he had summoned, statements that are still ongoing. It is the third time that the former vice-rector of Institutional Relations of the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) Juan Carlos Doadrio, who provided the emails that Cristina Álvarez sent him on behalf of Gómez, has given a statement.

The president of the Instituto Empresa (IE), Diego del Alcázar, also stated this afternoon, who already indicated to the judge that the hiring of Gómez as director of the Africa Center – dependent on the IE – in August 2018 was based on the fact that she had an adequate resume. Also mentioned is Google’s institutional and public policy manager, Miguel Escassi, who has already explained his collaboration with the platform that was developed within the chair co-directed by Begoña Gómez. None of the three witnesses have provided any news regarding their previous statements in court, explain the sources consulted.
