The 2025 harvest ended at the Ledesma Mill. And the company management came up with the idea of “celebrating” it with a horrific representation: the sacrifice of a worker who dies in a machine.
In the last year, the Ledesma Mill laid off more than 220 workers, in a series of batches that started in February and continues to this day. These are arbitrary dismissals, which affected both sugar and citrus workers. In a clear act of anti-union persecution, among those fired there are activists and former delegates.
The company’s “argument” for the layoffs is supposed economic “losses” that they cannot prove. In fact, in the 2024 Balance Sheet it declared net profits of $39.16 billion. This at the same time that it has been making million-dollar investments.
