The Secretary of Labor, Julio Corderoadvanced aspects of the anti-worker labor reform tailored to the needs of big businessmen in the Budget and Finance Commission of the Chamber of Deputies.

Cordero announced that they will seek to cut salaries even further. According to the official, the secretariat he directs “is working on agreements by company that would allow a different situation because they could negotiate with the union if the national parity was much higher” and he added that this negotiation “generates a salary differential that always goes up.”

The Government wants to pay individual productivity wagesread exploitation. The Secretary of Labor stated that they have “a dynamic salary increase plan. Employers must pay more to workers who differentiate themselves and stand out. We want salaries to generate this differential based on merit. If everything is the same, it points downwards.”

Cordero wants to reduce the floors of the basic salaries by agreements and allow each of the companies to negotiate the increase with their internal union representation. The purchasing power of salaries has not yet recovered everything that was lost under this Government and Milei wants to sink it even further. According to data from the consulting firm Equilibra, during the almost two years of the Milei era ā€œRegistered private and public employees, and retirees suffered, on average, a cumulative loss equivalent to two months of income.ā€

The official also defended the removal of fines for companies that do not comply with the labor legislation imposed by the Bases Law. Now the Government wants to move forward with a Base Law 2, which will include the reforms that emerge from the May Council.

The Secretary of Labor also denied that the joint venture signatures were delayed. According to Cordero, ā€œthe private sector must be protected, because if it is not protected, it will withdrawā€ and added that ā€œthere is a permanent dialogue, this is an open-door secretariat where we seek a balance between unions and employers.ā€ The Government benefits agro-exporters and large businessmen while stepping on equal footing.

We must face this attack

The Government wants to move forward with a labor and tax reform as demanded by the IMF. The statements of Cordero, who worked for the Techint Group, make it clear that they want greater labor flexibility and fewer rights for the working class. They want us slaves.

The CGT and the bureaucratic leadership maintain the truce with the Government and are part of allowing this advance. The completely bureaucratized union leadership allowed all types of attacks against labor rights in recent years. It is necessary a national fight plan to confront the ongoing looting.

Given the job insecurity, the Left Front Unity proposes reduce the working day to 6 hours and 5 days a week without salary reductionwith a minimum wage equivalent to the family basket and the distribution of working hours between employed and unemployed. If the reduction in working hours were applied to the 12 thousand large companies, it could be create a million jobs in these companies in the country. Work less to work for everyone.
