13 Brazilians detained in Israel for participating in the Global Sumud flotilla, which brought humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, were deported this Tuesday (7) and are already in Jordan, as confirmed by the governments of Brazil and the Arab country. The group, which includes federal deputy Luizianne Lins (PT-CE), was taken by bus to Amman, the Jordanian capital, with support from the Brazilian Embassy.

The deportation took place after diplomatic negotiations conducted by Itamaraty. According to the Brazilian government, the activists were detained in the center of Ketziot, in the Negev desert, and were in good health. They were released at the border and received consular assistance.

Jordan reported that it facilitated the crossing in coordination with the Israeli government. In total, 471 foreign activists have been deported by Israel since the flotilla was intercepted as it sailed towards Gaza last week.

The Israeli blockade prevented the arrival of around 40 boats carrying supplies for the Palestinian population. The interception provoked international condemnation and led the Brazilian government to denounce Israel to the UN Human Rights Council.

Among those deported in previous groups was Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, who was also part of the flotilla and was sent back to her country on Monday (6).
