The Espert-Machado scandal continues to cause new headaches for La Libertad Avanza. Far from the intention of the government, which intends to close the issue and turn the page with Diego Santilli as the new head of the list in the Province of Buenos Aires, the Electoral Justice ruled today that Karen Reichardt is the one who should lead in that district.

The decision is made by federal prosecutor Laura Roteta, although the ruling is not binding and now the last word will be in the hands of Federal Judge Alejo Ramos Padilla. The magistrate will be the one who has the final decision about how the final order of the libertarian list will be.

After Espert’s resignation, Reichardt is the one who immediately follows him on the list of candidates and therefore who should replace him. However, the ruling party argued that Due to gender parity issues, the person who should replace the resigned candidate is Diego Santillithird in the original makeup of the list. It seems ironic, but it is not.

Prosecutor Roteta, on the other hand, argued that affirmative action measures, designed to guarantee fair political representation for women, should not be understood in a way that harms the very group they are intended to benefit. That’s why he concluded that it should be Reichardt who rises to the top of the list.

LLA Alliance Lists Opinion October 7 251 by Leonardo Villafañe

The setback adds not only to the scandal of Espert’s resignation due to his links with the businessman arrested for drug trafficking and who will be extradited in the next few hours, but also to the controversy surrounding the request of La Libertad Avanza and the Macrismo to face the total reprinting of the ballots. An unjustified request since the deadlines have expired and also very expensive – more than 10 million dollars – which would show that when it comes to taking care of the interests of the ruling party, there is money. More chaste, impossible.

Regarding the latter, the opinion of the left was lapidary. “We are not going to accept that the normal development of the election on October 26 is put at risk. Far from it spending millions of dollars to try to cover up the fact that they put narco-deputy José Luis Espert as the first candidate (whom I denounced for his flights with Machado in a candidate debate 4 years ago in the 2021 campaign), while the government says that “there is no money” for people with disabilities, the Garrahan, retirees and universities. Not in our name,” said Nicolás del Caño.
