After this Friday, President Donald Trump gave an ultimatum to Hamas, the Islamist group has given his response to the mediators in which he claims to be willing to free all Israeli hostages (48, of which only 20 are still alive) and start negotiating the details of the plan that the US president presented on Monday.
In its statement, the Palestinian group appreciates the efforts of the Arab partners and even, of the US himself. “The movement announces that it accepts to free all the prisoners, both living and dead, according to the formula contained in Trump’s proposal.” However, he clarifies that liberation will depend on the conditions on the ground in Gaza, where the Israeli offensive continues without pause.
“In this context, the movement affirms its willingness to immediately enter negotiations through mediators to discuss the details of this,” adds the text spread in their networks.
Hamas has also accepted “to deliver the administration of Gaza to a Palestinian organ of independent (technocrats), based on the Palestinian national consensus and the Arab and Islamic support”, something that appears in the Trump plan, although it establishes that it would be “under the supervision and control of a new international transition body, the ‘Board of Peace’, which will be directed and chaired by President Donald Donald J. Trump. together with other members and heads of state that will be announced soon, including former Prime Minister Tony Blair. ” Hamas does not mention that Board or the intervention of non -Arab or Muslim countries in the future management of Gaza.
The president of the United States has accepted Hamas’s response at the last minute of this Friday. Trump has ordered Israel to stop the bombings in Gaza “immediately” to be able to get the hostages “safely and quickly.” In a publication in the social network Truth Social, the American president has assured that Hamas “is ready for peace”: “We continue to discuss the details so that this works. This is not only on Gaza, it is about a long peace in the Middle East.”
Stop the genocide
The Islamist group could not miss this opportunity to stop the war or risk a major escalation, even if the result is uncertain. “In an effort to stop the aggression and the war of extermination against our people in the Gaza Strip and based on national responsibility, Hamas has maintained internal consultations and broad consultations with Palestinian forces, as well as with mediators to reach a responsible position on the plan of President Donald Trump,” Hamas said in his statement.
A few hours before, Trump threatened to “unleash a hell” on Gaza if Hamas did not respond before Sunday to midnight (18:00 hours from Washington). The president already said that the US would “fully support” Israel to “finish the work” in the strip if Hamas did not accept.
However, Hamas has not accepted all the 20 points of the plan prepared by the US administration and in its statement has obviated some of the most important, such as the one who requested their disarmament. “Once all hostages have been returned, the amnesty will be granted to the members of Hamas who commit to the peaceful coexistence and the dismantling of their weapons. The members of Hamas who wish to leave Gaza will be provided a safe step to the host countries,” says point 6 of the Trump plan.
In the text, the Islamists point out that the rest of the points of the future of Gaza and the “inherent rights of the Palestinian people are linked to a national position based on international legislation and resolutions” and will be discussed “in a national framework”, along with other Palestinian political forces, not to mention any of them, but referring to the Palestinian authority.
Hamas’s acceptance would have to open the door to a high immediate fire, although Israel could claim that the Islamist movement has not accepted all the points of the plan.
Trump’s plan, supported by Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu – however he has insisted after the announcement that he will not recognize a future Palestinian state – says that if both parties accept the proposal, “the war will end immediately.”
“The Israeli forces will withdraw to the agreed line to prepare the release of the hostages. During this time, all military operations will be suspended, including aerial and artillery bombings, and the combat lines will remain frozen until the conditions for complete withdrawal in stages are met,” says the plan, which does not clarify neither the deadlines for the withdrawal nor the areas.
Sources cited by various media before the announcement have reflected divisions within Hamas among those who support the plan because they consider that the important thing is to obtain a high fire in Gaza and those that reject disarmament. This second internal current would choose, according to sources, because clarifications are included that the occupation of the strip is not legitimized, nor criminalized the armed resistance.
