A day after the removal of comedian Jimmy Kimmel from ABC network, US President Donald Trump announced that he could revoke licenses from television stations that position themselves “against” him.
At a press conference, Trump told a group of reporters that he read “somewhere” that 97% of US TV stations were positioned against him during the 2024 presidential elections. He showed nothing that proven this data.
The president also said that even with an opposing media, he won the elections and should therefore remove his licenses. Trump also stated that Brendan Carr, head of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the US, the final decision on the matter.
In an interview with Podcast Benny Show, Carr criticized US media and called Jimmy Kimmel “without talent.”
“A license granted by us brings with it the obligation to operate in the public interest. (…) We have a rule in the book that interprets a pattern of public interest that says that news distortion is forbidden. In the same way, we have a rule that deals with fraud in transmission. destroyed, ”he said.
